A Classic Andy Griffith Moment (one not involving Don Knotts)

In honor of the first Sunday in the NFL.

Also, I want it on the record that I have finished with my Cincinnati Bengals bulletin board at school. Here's a picture, for insurance purposes. I have no doubt that at some point, some snot-nosed, pubescent wanker Steelers/Browns/Ravens fan will come along and have his/her way with it. Triflin'.

Shedding Our 'Summer Skin'

So summer is over and school is back in session. Labor Day, indeed, came and went and now these poor souls find themselves sitting opposite the likes of me. A perfect time for a lovely sad song.

Wonder if the kids feel this way...

Summer Skin
Death Cab For Cutie

Squeaky swings and tall grass
The longest shadows ever cast
The water's warm and children swim
And we frolicked about in our summer skin

I don't recall a single care
Just greenery and humid air
Then Labor day came and went
And we shed what was left of our summer skin

On the night you left I came over
And we peeled the freckles from our shoulders
Our brand new coats so flushed and pink
And I knew your heart I couldn't win
Cause the season's change was a conduit
And we'd left our love in our summer skin

Things We Learn on the Evening News

I watched the NBC evening news and saw a piece about efforts to fight global warming and save some animal species native to Australia. Good on ya, mate.

Among the creatures to be saved: koalas, wolves and, yes, emus.

I only hope they're not too late....
